Visiting pediatrics in Japan

Visiting pediatrics in Japan

Pediatrics

Pediatrics treats children aged up to 15 years old. There are pediatrics that require an appointment before visiting and others that don't. The process of seeing a pediatrician is the same as seeing other doctors, so please refer to What to do when you visit a clinic/hospitals section in this website. If the parents of the child have insurance, such as National Health Insurance, a Free Medical Care Certificate for Infants is issued from the local City Hall and the infant can receive treatments and medications for free.

What to do if your child becomes sick at night/on weekends

Refer to the page How to find clinics/hospitals on duty in your area and find a clinic or hospital that is open at night. Clinics and hospitals are open until around 22:00 according to the Rotation (Rota) System. If your child is registered at pediatrics in a big hospital that has an emergency outpatient clinic, call them and ask if they can treat your child. If your child is sick in the middle of the night and their condition seems serious, call 119 for an ambulance.
